A Study of Napier Grass’s Potential and its Economic Value in Biogas Power Plant Development in Thailand

Statement problems Since the world’s population is growing, people are using more energy for several purposes, including their livelihood. Furthermore, motor oil is utilized in vehicle operation, and methane is used to generate fuel and electricity. Many countries are experiencing a scarcity of energy supplies, notably electricity and fuel. Thailand imports fuel and electricity, and its energy prices have been steadily rising for almost a decade, and this trend is likely to continue. Many researchers have looked for alternative energy sources to use instead of imported energy, especially in countries where electricity and other energy sources are unavailable. Furthermore, it is likely that the earth’s fuel and other energy supplies will be exhausted soon. Thailand is a leader in agricultural exports to many nations across the world, and all of its goods are of excellent quality. Thailand can grow energy crops for alternative energy production, such as sugarcane for bioethanol production and Napier grass for electricity generation, that are both low-cost and low-impact on the environment. In Thailand, there are around 20 varieties of Napier grass, each with a large biomass and distinct potential for producing methane, heating value and electricity. The potential of the Napier grass to create methane and heating value has been studied in recent work, which is initiated information on the uses of Napier grass varieties for energy purposes. Furthermore, it might be a practical means of determining the best varieties to employ for electricity generating in the future.
Area of Studies/ Area of Activities Field surveys throughout Thailand, as well as laboratory-based investigations to determine methane production and heating value, as well as the computation of heat value for electricity generation in electricity power generation plant (1 megawatt) from different varieties of Napier grass.
Objectives

1.To study the basic information of Napier grass varieties in Thailand, including strains, botanical characteristics, agricultural practices, and cultivation costs, as well as methane production from pig manure and Napier grass, and heating values from Napier grass for use as a source for electricity generation

2.To determine of cost and financial return of Napier grass cultivation for electricity generation in a power generation plant (1 megawatt)

1)To get a fundamental understanding of the biology and agricultural practices of various Napier grass varieties, as well as marketing information for cultivation and marketing, so that they may be used as a source of electricity generation.

2)To generate methane in a mesocosm system using a suitable ratio of fermented pig dung and Napier grass

3)To study about the technique’s optimization, economic and financial values, and investment in a biogas electricity production facility utilizing Napier grass.
